Do you love the outdoors? Do you love hiking? Do you love travelling to new, exciting countries? Well I have just the idea for you. I recently went to Iceland for a hiking adventure and I was more than satisfied with my decision. I went to Iceland knowing that there were plenty of opportunities to play in the outdoors including hiking trails, horse riding and more. One of the hiking adventures that I participated in was a trip to see both volcanoes and glaciers in Southern Iceland. This Iceland tour was more than I bargained for considering I didn’t even want to take a tour. I wanted to do it all on my own. However I soon realized that this would be extremely difficult in the tough terrain of Iceland and I would need professional help.
My friends and I ended up taking a tour from a local tour operator in Reykjavik. They were amazing and the guides were experts with tons of local knowledge that we never would have picked up ourselves. These tour operators facilitate hikes by using heavy duty jeeps to transport you straight to the trails and back with great comfort. I can honestly say that without one of these jeeps we would have never made it to the trails we wanted to hike.
Our tour was a 5 day trek from one mountain hut to the next. Along the way we saw volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, and geysers. The most intriguing aspect of Iceland’s back country is the sharp contrast between the icy and lava covered terrain with relatively close proximity.
