I just read on EPSN.com that Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger wrecked his motocycle in downtown Pittsburgh. He is in serious but stable condition. It is reported that he was not wearing a helmet.
As much as I hate the Steelers, I hope Roethlisberger is alright. But this again brings up the issue of pro athletes and motorcycles, especially when they ride without helmets.
I’m sorry, but anyone who rides a motocycle on busy roads or highways without a helmet is being an idiot. Big Ben and the Steelers are lucky this isn’t more serious than it seems. I’m sure Steeler officials will be laying out some serious ground rules regarding the use of motorcycles and helmets.

Wow, if only that happened right before the playoff game so all the high and mighty Shittsburgh fans could have gotten a taste of their own “He’s only one player, you should be able to suck it up and play without your starting QB” bullshit. Let’s see how they do if he misses some or all of the season now…

HAHA!
June 12th, 2006 at 3:17 pm
Wow, talk about predictable. I wonder if I could have possibly expected less….nah.
June 12th, 2006 at 3:28 pm
Now that’s funny… Us being “predictable” and you looking down on us for the same shit every damn Steeler fan pulled in January…
June 12th, 2006 at 3:30 pm
I just think it’s funny that almost every injury he got would have been prevented if the dumbass would’ve been wearing a helmet…
June 12th, 2006 at 3:38 pm
Yeah he’s in pretty bad shape. Probably wouldn’t be nearly as bad if he’d had a helmet on. I’m curious to what kind of knee injuries he sustained.
June 12th, 2006 at 5:39 pm
It’s really stupid not to wear a helmet in the first place. But to ignore warning signs (kellen winslow jr., every motorcyclist ever for that matter) and constant pleadings from coaches, fans, and explayers is simply dumbfounding. Its like eating a turd over a steak dinner: it makes no fucking sense!
PS. Sgt Poon: Stop praying for more Steelers injuries and wipe that evil fucking grin off your face, the Bungholes will still fall to the Steelers this year regardless.
June 12th, 2006 at 5:45 pm
Classless…you all are classless assholes.
The guy is on the operating table with serious injuries and the first thing you do is talk shit.
Forget the fact that he’s a Steeler and you all hate them. Anyone with an ounce of compassion and human decency would first and foremost hope for a speedy recovery.
For you Cinci pricks out there who compare this with your QB going down, you’re so fucking ignorant. Palmer’s injuries weren’t LIFE THREATENING. You say we’re the apes with no class but given your current behavior, it would be a compliment if I chose those words to describe you.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Roethlisberger family at this tragic time.
June 12th, 2006 at 6:35 pm
See, that’s the kicker, his injuries wouldn’t be anywhere near life threatening if he had been wearing a helmet. Except for the knee, every single one of his major injuries (all the “life threatening” ones) would have been totally protected by a full face helmet.
I don’t wish an injury on anyone, even Steelers, but if you are so fucking retarded that you won’t wear a helmet when riding, you deserve to get messed up.
June 12th, 2006 at 10:18 pm
Steel City:
Where do you see anyone talking shit, you useless cunt? Fuck Big Ben…
June 12th, 2006 at 10:22 pm
So if you don’t wear sunscreen every time you go outdoors you deserve to get melanoma? Or if you choose to take a plane and it crashes you knew the dangers and deserve to die? Nonesense.
You do have one good arguement, he was stupid to not be wearing a helmet. But we all make personal choices, some good, some not.
My point is that you couldn’t even wait long enough to make sure he was out of harms way to start with your poisonous tongue. Shame on you!
June 12th, 2006 at 10:34 pm
Here’s another jackass…
Limited vocab and the inability to converse like an educated adult.
The only thing that’s useless is the sperm that was wasted when you were created.
June 13th, 2006 at 8:58 am
I agree. That guy is a jerkoff.
June 13th, 2006 at 11:45 am
This is EXACTLY what I was talking about
June 13th, 2006 at 11:49 am
Wow! Hey everybody, Charles Darwin is in the house!
June 13th, 2006 at 12:48 pm
Mr. Darwin, is it true that woman has evolved more so than man?
Or maybe over time men are relapsing back into the ape years? Please help clarify my state of confusion as you are the expert.
June 13th, 2006 at 3:27 pm
To answer your earlier question, yes, you deserve to get melanoma if you don’t wear suncreeen when you’re outside on a consistent basis. And your airplane analogy is poor, if you had said not wearing a seatbelt while driving… And yes, you deserve your injuries when you don’t wear a seatbelt.
It’s not that he took a risk, it’s that he added to the risk of riding a motorcycle by not wearing a helmet, an extremely easy risk to avoid.
June 14th, 2006 at 4:08 pm
I bore of this topic.
Ben will be back by regular season and we will be in the running for a repeat.
June 15th, 2006 at 7:30 am
If by “in the running for a repeat” you mean second place in the division, I think you’re right. The Ravens and Browns have done nothing but improve though, so you’ve got your work cut out for you.
June 16th, 2006 at 9:31 am
I welcome a worthy opponent. Its about damn time we have someone who may make us break a sweat.
June 16th, 2006 at 10:54 am
You guys weren’t sweating last year when halfway through the season it looked like you might not even make the playoffs?
June 16th, 2006 at 11:33 am
Nah…
I just put my faith in those good ole’ Steelers and knew they wouldn’t let me down.
June 16th, 2006 at 1:49 pm
Ben’s injuries were not life threatening, bu they could be season threatening. It is clear he won’t be at minicamp, which really isn’t that big of a deal, but what about training camp. How much will he miss? Will he even play in the pre-season or will his pre-season be games 1-4? Remember, he broke his jaw in 2 places and most of his teeth are busted. There are no “jaw protectors” on a football helmet. He must be fully healed before he could enter a game. This isn’t a rehab injury like Carson’s where if you rehab enough you can get back quicker. This is a sit around and heal injury If you start too early and split it open again you are back to the waiting game.
I think this injury could shorten his career. The first concussion is the hardest to get, each one after that is easier to get. Will he be the next Troy Aikman (or however you spell his name) and be forced out of the league due to head injuries and not age or skill level?
On a side note, I don’t want Ben to die or anything, but I will have to thank Justin Smith’s mom for this one
June 16th, 2006 at 2:30 pm
We know NOW that his injuries weren’t life threatening. But at the time it happened, he was listed in critical condition. That’s what pissed me off…for all anyone knew, his life could have been in danger. Some morally challenged persons still wished ill on him and it sickens me.
June 16th, 2006 at 6:51 pm
Listen, I don’t care if Ben is going to die or not, I just want people to stop blaming people about things they did not say. Ben SHOULD have been wearing a helmet, he didn’t, oh well.
All day i have been hearing people say things like “That should have killed him.” I think that that could have killed him since he wasn’t wearing a helmet. On SC he told them that he thought that helmets were dumb and he wasn’t going to wear one. I think that now he will lear from his mistakes.
My dad was in a motorcycle accident and almost died. I know that i should always waer a helmet even though state law doesn’t require one.
Brooks: You are right about what you said about Bens injuries and Troy Aikman’s last name.
