It was already announced several weeks ago that the Rolling Stones would be featured for the Super Bowl halftime show. Up until last year’s performance by the legendary Sir Paul McCartney, the previous halftime shows were an absolute wreck. One year we got crap like Nelly, N’Sync, and Britney Spears. The year after that was the “wardrobe malfunction” with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. After all that lame crap, the NFL finally got it right and made a show that actually had some class, handing the show over to the former Beatle. I for one thought it was great.
This year it’s everyone’s favorite old age rockers the Rolling Stones. Don’t get me wrong. The Stones are legendary, and I would take this over some “pop” or rap bullshit anyday. But here’s what I see happening. The Stones will perform on the stage in the middle of the field, Mick Jagger will strut back and forth as the audience attempts to decipher the lyrics he is mumbling into his mic, Keith Richards will smoke his trademark cigarette while strumming his guitar, and we will see hundreds of “fans” dancing on the field in front of the stage pretending that they weren’t born 30 years after the Stones started touring.
I think it will be interesting, and even funny to watch. I just hope they play their classics, which they probably will, since I don’t think anyone would recognize any of there songs that were written in the last 20 years.
Just don’t bring back anymore pop acts. Although it is fun seeing people like Ashlee Simpson get booed off the stage like she did at the Orange Bowl last year. If the people aren’t capable of playing musical intruments, keep their asses off the stage. Especially the Superbowl.
