If You Don’t Know How To Sail Then You Should Take Sailing Courses
There are many people who enjoy the wind in their hair and the beauty of the wide open ocean no more than a foot away. Not everyone knows how to sail so the obvious answer would be to take sailing courses . There are different sailing schools that are ASA (American Sailing Association) Certified and teach classes every week during the summer. Prices range from £30 an hour on their boat to £20 an hour on yours. Within a week with just a weeks training you could be sailing on your own. The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) has sailing courses available for the more sophisticated yachtsman. Many people take RYA courses because it is universally recognized. If you are looking to charter boats, for example, you will need a RYA qualification. These classes are offered as courses in college and also online. The RYA has a day skipper CD-ROM that can be used for self studying. To receive a day skipper certification you will need prior experience. This includes 5 days living on board, 100 miles logged and 4 hours night sailing. By the end of the course you should be confident enough to take out a small yacht in familiar waters by day. All RYA courses are offered in two different types, either tidal of non-tidal. The non-tidal course is for the sailor that will spend most of its time in non-tidal waters such as the Mediterranean. But when applying to charter a boat you will be more successful having the tidal certificate.
